Our Updated Business Continuity Plan as of March 23, 2020

The COVID-19 Health Emergency has meant that the plans we published late last week have changed.

The doors to our facility are now closed until further notice, with no public access to our local collection, computers, printers, fax, phone services, or the Job Board.

Our staff will be providing library and employment services virtually: by phone and email, for reference questions, and as IT support to walk you through how to access:

1) Library e-resources using your personal devices (e-Books, e-Audiobooks, e-Magazines, e-Newspapers, Early Literacy resources and Homework Help, and more in English and French), and

2) How to search and apply for work, EI, and also we will provide basic information and links to resources and information on current Job Postings, Alberta Supports resources, and Provincial & Federal COVID-19 financial aid programs for both employees and employers.

Please leave a message on the CERC line (780) 837-8009 or Main Library (780) 837-2776, and you will receive a callback as soon as possible, during our normal business hours (Tuesday – Friday). Our staff are working offsite with a callback system – although it is nicer to see them or speak with them directly, we rely on your cooperation with this approach to protect the safety of our people so that we can continue to serve you.

We know that many of you do not have access to the internet at home, so updates on the website will focus on how to do these functions with your phone, using the library’s WiFi. You can access this from our parking lot – please do this from the safety of the inside of your parked car, using your library card and password.

If you have a local library card only, we will be upgrading your access this week for 3 months at no cost, so you can also access these amazing resources, and to help you stay connected. You will receive a text, email or letter with your password and instructions on how to sign in, based on your current account information.

If you do not already have a library card, the Peace Library System (PLS) will provide you with one at no cost, during this period, if you live in the Town of Falher, Village of Donnelly, MD of Smoky River or the Village of Girouxville. PLS has been able to do this due to the participation by your municipality in our regional library system. We always rely on and appreciate municipal and regional support – but never more so than at this time like this. Click on this link for more information.

Again, based on provincial advice and concerns about the life span of the virus on virtually any surface (including paper), the circulation of ALL physical library materials has been suspended.

· No Borrowing from our local collection or other libraries through interlibrary loan

· No Book / DVD drop-offs (please keep these items at home until we ask you to return them).

(You won’t incur fines or late fees.)

· No Curbside free little libraries, or Library Outreach service

FINALLY, please do not share your library items with anyone outside of your household, since the circulation of these materials may cause further spread of the virus within your community.

Our next Board Meeting is April 7th, and an update with how you can virtually participate will be posted in advance on our website and on Facebook Please email the Board at if you have questions or concerns. Together we’ll get through this – the link below from Alberta Health Services is a great visual on how we can all do our part to help prevent the spread by social distancing – be safe!

A Letter From the Library Staff - Covid 19 Update

As mentioned above the Falher library will be closed to the public for the forseeable future. Though that may seem daunting, I am still here to help! I will be working from home to answer all of your questions via Facebook, email, and phone. Feel free to contact me in any of these ways and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Some of the things that I can help you with are:

- Accessing AND training for the myriad of e-resources we have for our patrons.

- Renewing book and memberships.

- Help resetting passwords and updating account information.

- Providing you with all kinds of tools and resources on our facebook page.

- Checking out books for you from our local collection (to be picked up on Wednesdays only)

Again, no one will be able to enter the library or interact with us one one one at this time but we will work hard to solve any problems and answer any questions that you may have for us. Please see our contact information below:

Phone: 780-837-2776

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. Stay safe!
